I felt my face flush red. I grabbed bag and debated…should I quit? I can’t possibly stay. How would I even do my work?
It was my first day on the job. I’d been hired as the one and only Technical Communicator to write and design maintenance instructions for nuclear reactors. (I know! Pretty cool, huh?) But I’d just learned that I would not be getting access to professional design software.
No design software? How on Earth would I create technical drawings, graphics, or even format visual documents without design software? Even worse, I’d just moved everything I owned 320 miles for a job I can’t possibly succeed at.
PowerPoint, I thought. PowerPoint is the only software I have that can possibly make graphics. It has basic shapes, anyway. So I opened PowerPoint and began pecking away. Before I knew it, I was finding ways to draw and illustrate graphics, just like I can with Photoshop and Illustrator. Only with PowerPoint, design was even easier.
I’ve kept PowerPoint in my design toolkit ever since, and now I want to teach you how to use it the same way! You don’t even have to know how to use PowerPoint because I’ll be with you every step of the way.
